About us

Mike

Born Dec. 19, 1969, in Asheville, North Carolina. Me and my beautiful wife Michele live in Canton North Carolina  I have 4 kids, and 2 grandkids. This might come as a shock, but I started singing at an early age also, just like Ben.
After a brief time on bass (about the time Ben got a guitar) I learned to pick out The Wildwood Flower from Ben. I always loved music and dreamed of one day playing on stage. At 34 I received a mandolin from Norman Wilson and  my dad. Norman was one of my musical heroes growing up and I was devastated when he passed. Norman and my dad  were best friends, and dad was fascinated with the instrument making process, so I jokingly said they should make me one. Apparently in the run they were making they had one that had more flaws than they would like. I played that mandolin till the neck twisted too much to play. Ben and I have played off and on for years. I have way too many musical experiences to put in this little bio space, but hopefully as time goes on, we can put more stuff on here. One of the things that I love about the Brothers Rathbone is the family harmony.
Sometimes I don't even notice that he has a weird shaped head. He's my big brother, it works. We have another brother somewhere in Georgia.
Ben and Alan are also my heroes. They served their country just like dad and that makes me very proud. Stick around. Let's have some fun!

Ben

Born Feb 9th, 1968, In Memphis Tennessee. I have 7 kids and 8 grandkids. I love them all. I am a single Dad with two boys still at home with me. They keep me hoppin!
Started singing when I was very young with my Mom Joyce Rathbone and my brothers, Mike, and Alan Rathbone as a gospel group. I was hooked. I learned to play the bass first, because I didn't have access to a guitar, but soon after I got a guitar and learned to play that. Again, I was hooked.
Mike and I played together anywhere they would let us, flea markets to help people sell socks, or whatever. We grew up in a musical family, so we were always playing and singing at family get togethers. I went in the Army out of high school, and spent 4 years all the way across the United States in Washington State. I Came back to South Carolina, got out of the Military, and went home to North Carolina. Then I got recalled for Desert Storm and did my duty and came home. Then off to Washington again. I played with a bunch of bands off and on there until I finally came back home in 2000 and me and Mike started playing together again. we have taken a few breaks here and there but as for me I would rather be singing with my brother. Did I mention I was single? Let's have some fun.
